With Godzilla: King of the Monsters headed to theaters, now is the perfect time to revisit Godzilla movies from the past – I’d personally recommend the insane Godzilla: Final Wars – and among that list is of course Roland Emmerich’s much-maligned Godzilla, released in 1998. Speaking of which, Hollywood’s take on the classic Kaiju just hit 4K Ultra HD this week!
Godzilla has been remastered in 4K from the original camera negative with High Dynamic Range and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, with the following special features included:
- Audio commentary by visual effects supervisor Volker Engel and associate visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas
- Behind the scenes of Godzilla with Charles Caiman
- All-Time Best-of Godzilla Fight Scenes
- “Heroes” music video by The Wallflowers
Surely we’ve all got many unkind things to say about Godzilla ’98, but let’s try and focus on the positive here. Comment below and tell us one thing you *like* about the 1998 film!
I’m not quite gonna say Godzilla 1998 is half-good, as it’s probably less than half-good, but I actually REALLY like the Aliens-inspired Madison Square Garden stuff and the final battle sequence as well.
So there. I said something nice. Happy 20th! pic.twitter.com/CD1J9FiW0a
