While extraordinarily early in the development phase, Production Weekly is reporting that there will be a third Deep Blue Sea, with Netflix being listed as producers. There are no other details as of this writing.
The franchise first started back in 1999 with the Renny Harlin-directed thriller in which a group of scientists on an isolated research facility becomes the prey of a trio of intelligent sharks. It starred Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Two years ago, Darin Scott, best known for the awesome social horror anthology Tales From the Hood, quietly got behind the camera for a sequel that was eventually released last spring by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
That film, which felt like a soft reboot of sorts, followed Dr. Klaus Van Etten, who is experimenting on bull sharks, much to the chagrin of Misty and her team of marine experts. The sharks get out, of course, and all hell breaks loose.
