One of the films that made my own “top 15 favorite horror movies of 2019” list was Tony D’Aquino‘s The Furies, which managed to do something fresh and brand new with the slasher subgenre. Multiple masked killers are featured in the gory throwback slasher, which is loaded with nasty practical effects and features (in my opinion) the year’s very best horror movie kill.
The Furies, which has been streaming on Shudder since last year, is now headed to physical media in just a couple months. The DVD will release on March 3, 2020, says Amazon.
“In the film, a young woman faces her darkest fears with seven other unwilling participants in a deadly game.”
D’Aquino’s goal with the film was to capture the look and feel of the uncompromising horror films of the ‘80s. In creating the eight different killers(!) the women do bloody battle with, the team drew inspiration from classic ‘70s and ‘80s slasher films, including Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, The Burning, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
